What a great show this year, my third show in a row. For those of you who have not heard of the Photography Show before, its an event held at the NEC in Birmingham UK and is dedicated to everything Photography.
This year I thought I would focus on visiting talks from some of the fantastic speakers at the Photography Show.
The Photographers that I had the pleasure in attending their talks were:
- Lara Jade
- Damian McGillicuddy
- John Denton
- Gavin Hoey
- Andrew Dobell
Some of the these great photographers I even had the pleasure of meeting. Namely Lara Jade and Damian McGillicuddy both inspirational photographers and speakers.
Lara Jade is a fashion photographer who now lives in New York, but is originally from Tamworth (Staffordshire, UK). It is always great to know that someone that used to live relatively close to you has made it in the Fashion Photography world.
It was great to see Lara talking and demonstrating her Posing 101 tips. Lara made directing and posing the model look effortless.
I have been following Lara’s work over the last couple of years and her images are fantastic.
I was particularly please also to get a selfie with Lara.LARA JADE WEBSITE
I have had the pleasure of attending several workshops by Damian McGillicuddy and this one was another great event. Damian is the Principal Photographer and Educator of Olympus UK and therefore I felt really privileged to attend this event.
The event which was held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham UK. It was an “Over the Shoulder” shoot, that was part of a real Fashion shoot for Olympus UK. The event was held at a secret location within the Hilton Hotel and it felt a bit strange to be escorted to this secret location to meet Damian.
As always Damian’s tuition is fun and entertaining and we even had the opportunity to get a few sample shots. Also laid on were some nibbles (Tasty “chips” as Damian was fed up of sandwiches).Damian McGillicuddy Website
Gavin laid on a fantastic show called “Fearless Flash Photography”. He was great, he firstly built up his lighting and built a rapport with his model. He then went onto still keep his lighting set-up simple but added more drama to his portrait but providing the model with props and even sprayed some fake snow to give more impact to the shot.
I will certainly be having a go at trying some similar methods.Gavin Hoey Website
John Denton is someone new to me and I have not seen his work before. John gave a great talk on “How to Pose” models/people. John is a wedding and Fashion Photographer based in East Yorkshire, UK.
I found his talk really inspiring and made posing of a model look all so easy. I will certainly be following more of his work in the future.Denton Photography Website
I was really impressed with Andrew’s talk. He completed a portrait demonstration with the 2016 Winners of MCM Comic Con show. I have not seen Andrew’s work before but found his photos and compositing really inspirational.
Andrew is both a Wedding Photographer and a Creative Artist. Other than Wedding Photography Andrew captures images of CosPlay characters and then composites the images in Photoshop to make some really fantastic creative imagery.
I have always been fascinated with how photographers composite their images and Andrew is certainly someone to learn from and watch in the future.Creative Edge Website
